These are my book-related goals for 2015. Last year I had
some reading goals, but I wanted to expanded my goals a little bit this year.
Reading Goals

~Re-reads: 10
~New-to-me Authors: 15
~Classics/Non-Fiction: 5
~Big Books (over 500 pages): 5
~Blood of the Fold by Terry Goodkind
After looking over my reading for 2014 I feel like these
are realistic goals. I combined Classics and non-fiction because those are two
genres I tend to avoid and figure 5 total is more approachable. And just like
last year these will be listed in their own tab and I will mark them off as
they are completed.
Reviews/Videos
I want to do written reviews of at least 80% of the books
I read. For about the last half of 2014 I reviewed basically everything I read
and I would like to stay on that trend.
I would also like to do video reviews of at least 50% of
the books I read. To me this means they are reviewed in a video separate from
my wrap-ups.
I don’t have any particular “goals” connected to videos
other than the one mentioned above when it comes to reviews. But I am going to
switch from monthly wrap-ups to weekly wrap-ups.They will probably be posted on Mondays.
Book Buying
I don’t think I have a book buying problem because I can
afford every book I buy. I also don’t have a problem with having a lot of TBR
books. But I have prioritized paying off my student loans and I hope this will
help me with that goal. Additionally, I would like my TBR books to always fit
on the bookshelf I currently store them on, so hopefully this will keep that
under control. Below is how I plan on handling my book buying in 2015.
1)For every 3 books I read I can buy 1 book.
2)Re-reads do not count toward the 3 books.
3)I am able to do a post-Christmas haul with the
money I get for Christmas/Birthday
4)I will begin the year by buying 5 books in
January.
I’ve
been eying Sarina Bowen for a few months now. I’ve heard good things about her
new adult books but always talked myself out of it. Then, I saw this was only
$.99. I figured even if it sucked $1 wasn’t too much to spend. And it was worth
the money and more. The cover is pretty awkward though.
This
story hit a lot of my sweet spots. First, it’s in dual POV. If you are set on
doing first person please do dual POV. When there’s a romance I prefer to get
in each character’s head. And it was a cute romance. Both characters have a
bunch of shitty things going on in their lives, but their romance is perfectly
adorable. Plus, the romance progresses slowly and isn’t over-the-top sexual.
Plus, hockey-even if it wasn’t a main focus of the story.
Scarlet
and Bridger were both great characters and I liked them equally. But-and I say
that with no intent to offend-what the hell kind of name is Bridger?I can definitely tell why people really love
Bridger. He’s a sweet guy and his life situation just makes you love him. He
actually reminds me of Cam from Wait for
You in personality. And Scarlet was down to earth and not super
melodramatic considering her situation. A lot of the side characters were
intriguing and make me want to read more about them.
All
that being said, I did have a couple issues. First, a few times I would get
confused about which character was telling the story. And Scarlet would get a
little repetitive when she would complain about how she had no friends because
of her dad. Normally, that kind of stuff doesn’t bother me, but here it got
annoying. I also wish Scarlet had more friendships. I get why she would avoid people
but so much of her life was focused on her relationship with Bridger.
But
those complaints are pretty minor. This is a great new adult read and I’m
excited to read the other books in the series. They both have characters that
are exactly what I like. Plus, hockey. There should be more books with hockey
in them.
This
has got to be one of my favorite novellas. It was basically a hundred page
epilogue. There was a little bit of conflict/drama, but was mostly awesome coupleness.
I’m
happy to see more of Will and Mia’s life as a couple. It’s always reassuring to
see a couple still happy and working through conflict. Plus, I was a little
apprehensive about the ending in Sweet Thing, but this appeased me.
I
guess the next thing I’m going to talk about is a spoiler, but the cover gives
it away.
Normally,
I’m pretty opposed to pregnancy storylines, but this one was great. It forced
Mia and Will to deal with some issues in their relationship. Mia is always
worried about stability and Will is spontaneous. A baby makes them look at
these personality traits and I think the overall story is better for it.
I
loved being able to spend more time with these characters. And I’m glad it was
told by Will. I wanted in his head before and I’ll definitely take this. And
the epilogue bit at the end was great. I just love seeing couples I care about
happy, if you couldn’t tell.
These are the books I’m most anxious to read in 2015. Off
course there are other books I’m planning on reading and buying, but these are
the most exciting. Most of these are part of a series I’ve been reading. And I
broke them down by month.
