Jubilee Chase and Flynn Cormac should never have met.

Lee is captain of the forces sent to Avon to crush the terraformed planet's rebellious colonists, but she has her own reasons for hating the insurgents.

Rebellion is in Flynn's blood. Terraforming corporations make their fortune by recruiting colonists to make the inhospitable planets livable, with the promise of a better life for their children. But they never fulfilled their promise on Avon, and decades later, Flynn is leading the rebellion.

Desperate for any advantage in a bloody and unrelentingly war, Flynn does the only thing that makes sense when he and Lee cross paths: he returns to base with her as prisoner. But as his fellow rebels prepare to execute this tough-talking girl with nerves of steel, Flynn makes another choice that will change him forever. He and Lee escape the rebel base together, caught between two sides of a senseless war.

Review

Just like the first book in the series, this book was a pleasant surprise. I don't know why I assume it won't be good. And the covers are just beautiful. I had to give in and buy physical copies.

Both Lee and Flynn were interesting characters to read about. Lee is very soldier-like and competent. You don't always get competence porn in YA and I'm here for it. Flynn's passion for his people and planet is endearing. They kind of occupy the opposite traditional gender roles. And I really enjoyed how they impacted each other.

This story gave me real Firefly vibe. That isn't a problem, because terraformed planets and shady corporations are pretty standard in sci-fi. I liked the inclusion of Irish (and Chinese) culture/language. I'm particularly a sucker for all things Irish.

I'm really interested in this world and the overall story. I honestly have no idea where it's going and what a resolution will be.

Oh, and I did like returning to characters form the first book. Although it has been a few years since I read it so I didn't remember a lot. I am very thankful for Recaptains.

Thanks for reading!
Holly
