He wasn't supposed to choose her...
Seafaring prince Dilys Merimydion has been invited to court the three magical princesses of Summerlea. To eradicate the pirates threatening Calberna and to secure the power of the Sea Throne, Dilys vows to return home with a fierce warrior-queen as his bride. But politics has nothing to do with unexpected temptation.

She didn't dare wed him...

A weathermage like her sisters, Gabriella Coruscate's gentleness exemplifies the qualities of her season name, Summer. Yet her quiet poise conceals dangerous powers she cannot begin to wield. Better to live without excitement, she reasons, than risk her heart and lose control— until an irresistible Sealord jolts her awake with a thunderclap of raw desire.

Until evil threatens everything they hold dear...

When pirates kidnap Summer and her sisters, Dilys is in a desperate quest to save the woman he loves. Only by combining his command of the seas with the unleashed fury of Summer's formidable gifts can they defeat their brutal enemies and claim the most priceless victory of all: true love.

Review

I had never read a fantasy romance so this was different for me. The mechanics of the world confused me the whole time-maybe if I read the first book it would be easier to understand. This also made some solutions to conflicts feel a little to easy. It was like "my magic can do anything even thought I've never mentioned this power before."

A huge part of this is story is that the hero, Dilys', kingdom/people have a queen, but they also value their women before anything else. The men grow up training to be worthy of a wife. I appreciate how caring and respectful these men were of all women. But sometimes it became too much and stopped feeling genuine.

The romance was fine, but didn't completely grip me. But Summer, the heroine, was interesting. She is incredibly powerful, but spends her whole life hiding it and pretending to be weak. I liked reading about her internal conflict. I also liked seeing her relationship with her sisters.

Even though this wasn't my favorite book it was entertaining enough. I would read the first book and will try another book by C.L. Wilson.

Thanks for reading!

Holly
