This
was my first Lorraine Heath book and it was a great introduction.
The
romance was great. It had a nice balance of drama and sexual tension. The wedding
night backstory drama was a little unbelievable. But I’m willing to suspend
some disbelief.
Both
characters were great. The earl was this great combination of moody and
wounded. He could have come across as cold, but his relationship with his dog
tempered that. And his insecurities (feeling like no one can love him, being
reliant on his brother, etc.) had the potential of being too melancholy but it
didn’t.
And
Claire was a good character. She knew what she wanted and wasn’t afraid to
fight it. I also liked how active she was in the physical aspects of their
relationship. Since she was a virgin she could have been meek, but she wasn’t.
Although, occasionally, her personality didn’t feel consistent. This did get
better as the story continued.
My
really only complaint was the resolution-it was a little fast. Another chapter
or two would’ve really flushed it out. The epilogue was great though. And I am
curious to see what happens in the next two books.
~Thanks for reading!
