Lord of Wicked Intentions by Lorraine Heath

Series: Lost Lords of Pembrook (Book 3)

Format: Paperback

Pages: 370

Rating: 3 Stars

How I Got It: Purchased

This is the last book in this series and it’s my last favorite. Now, I’ll admit I think part of the problem is that I was really looking forward to Rafe’s story and it just didn’t live up to my expectations.

While I was disappointed I did really enjoy Evelyn’s character. Initially, I thought she was going to be meek and potentially annoying. But she had a very unique personality for a heroine in a historical romance. And she was kind of spunky.

Although, Rafe rubbed me the wrong way. I can appreciate and love a tortured hero-Seduce a Sinner by Elizabeth Hoyt is a favorite. But he was too closed off. And he came off as kind of a jerk sometimes.

I also found the story kind of frustrating. The advancement of Rafe and Evelyn’s relationship was very one step forward, two steps back.

Even with these complaints it was a fairly enjoyable read. And I’ll probably pick it up again in a few years. Maybe with a different perspective my rating will change.

Thanks for reading!

Lord of Temptation by Lorraine Heath

Series: Lost Lords of Pembrook #2

Format: Paperback

Pages: 384

Rating: 4 Stars

How I Got It: Purchased

Another Lorraine Heath book. I know you’re probably surprised. And she didn’t disappoint.

And I definitely stand by my four star rating, but I feel like this book was a little forgettable. It’s only been a couple days but I’m forgetting a lot of plot points.

I liked both Tristan and Anne. Ms. Heath is very good at creating well-balanced characters. Plus, there was a further look into the brothers. Actually, I’m very eager to read the next book because this one just made me more curious about Rafe.

Then, there’s the plot. In my experience, her plots are always a little crazy. This one wasn’t quite as crazy, but it was a surprise. There were a few secrets other authors wouldn’t reveal until the end, but Ms. Heath exposed them early and without unnecessary drama.

She also progressed the romance well. These characters are attracted to each other, but don’t fall in love right away. So many books bring up love too fast and I’m grateful she didn’t fall into that.

I’m glad I read this book, but I did like the first book better.

Thanks for reading!

She Tempts the Duke by Lorraine Heath

Series: Lost Lords of Pembrook (Book 1)

Format: Paperback

Pages: 355

Rating: 4 Stars

How I Got It: Purchased

Seriously I’ve been reading romance for ten years, so how have I only discovered the awesomeness that is Lorraine Heath this year?

On the plus side-I have a crap-ton of books available to me since she’s been writing for years.

Maybe I should start writing about the actual book this review is about.

I would say this is a slower book, but in a good way. Mary and Sebastian didn’t fall over each other right which was refreshing. And it wasn’t super steamy. I know some people might want more romance or sensuality, but these characters and their story demanded the opposite.

And I really liked Maya and Sebastian-individually, as friends, and as a couple. There should be more childhood friendship story lines without unrequited love.

Mary made some “silly” decisions. I struggle with calling them that, but can’t think of a better word. What I mean is that she does things that will have serious/negative consequences. Normally, that would be frustrating, but Mary thinks through her actions and is a very good person.

It’s probably getting obnoxious at this point, but the hero is scarred. He’s even missing an eye. I’m really into this and the depth it can bring to a story. I loved (?) reading about Sebastian’s struggle especially since he has a twin. It’s like he has to constantly look at what he’s lost.

I don’t really have anything negative to say about this book. But there was just something missing which is why I couldn’t give it five stars.

I definitely want to read the next two books in the series. I really liked seeing the scenes with all of the brothers and hope those continue. Clearly all the brothers have a lot of issues they need to work through and I know Ms. Heath will write their stories beautifully.

I’ll try to make future reviews less rambley, but no promises.
